Jewellery Box/ Recycle box

Hello friends,
Hope you are having a great weekend.

I am back again with a recycling project using a box. I am hoarding many boxes and now I am trying to put them for proper use. This time too I was tempted to make it a gift box but then decided to make something different.

It's a very simple way to convert any box to a jewellery, what I have done is, based on the measurement of the box decided how many big and small sections I can make. Then created those many boxes and decorated them. Then did some decoration and it is done.

You can see the video here.

Thanks for stopping by and spending time on my blog. I would love to read your comments.

Cardboard Gift Box

Hey friends it's been ages I did not have any post. Kind of unplanned break ! Initially it was due to health issues in family and later with all the festivities around did not get any chance to write a post. I was working on few crafts though but did not post them, so I have a long list craft to be shared. You will quite a few posts in coming days.

Well starting with the latest I have created.

This was fun creating as I was trying to teach my son how to create a box from cardboard. Thought will create just the box and leave it but actually went on to give it finishing!

I had 1 piece of rectangular cardboard from some clothing we recently got. I followed a tutorial (here) to create the box which is super easy. Once done, used PP to cover it. Used distress ink over the edges and some glitter on the surface. Added few pearls and created flower using few elements.
For the inside, colored it brown.

Inside look.

I don't know what to call the petals which is used to create the flower. I had bought if long back but never used it. It reflects different colors red/pink, orange, golden with different light intensity. One of the snap to show how the color changes.

Would love to share for Lessology - Let's get organized challenge (I have recycled the dress cardboard here)

Sweet Home

Today I have something else than card. I was inspired by Lizzy's take of the chalkboard challenge in Lessology. Here's my interpretation of the challenge.

I had this base from one of the cakes we had ordered. I knew I would use it some day and found it apt for this challenge. At one end the rim was slightly broken so I put some bunch of flowers on that side to hide it. Added pearl strip on the rim. Now I have the canvas to play ! I put on "Sweet Home" message using white color pencil. I made arrangement to keep this as stand alone or hang it as per the place I want to display. I put some of the family photos around the flowers. I removed few before taking snaps except that of my son's photo.

Love Birds

Hi friends...I have a recycled project today. I have seen those love birds in a mason jar project and just fell in love. Since a long time I was planning to have a version of my own.

First I do not have a jar of the required size :( and to top it I do not dare to make any thing in glass considering these things have very small shelve life thanks to my son :)

So I went ahead with the resources I have. I decided to try it using a plastic jar I have. First I cut out a heart shape from the side and lined it with red beads. Used some golden leaf and butterfly. I have put some green thing in the bottom for grass, can you guess what it is?????
It is a dish scrubber :P

I have been holding on to these cute little birds from the mobile that I had some time back. After I was done with the design on the jar, I was thinking it is just a matter of time that I will just put the pair of bird inside on a swing. But no......my knowledge of my physics was put to a through test while trying to balance those 2 birds on that stick. They just would not stay straight!! Then my FIL came to my rescue and phew it was finally done. Used washi tape to design the lid of the jar.

I have added some roses across the base and put tassels at the two ends of that swing. This was not easy as I had imagined earlier but I am happy to have it strike out from my list :)

Please do let me know you thoughts on it.

Doodle

This one I started with no specific deign in mind. I was having this thermacol container since a long time. This was with some packaging which I do not remember now.
Painted the container with acrylic colors, did not use too many layers of coating. I used the brush pen to make the designs on the surface. I specifically did not want to use embellishments apart from making with my own hand.
The flowers are make of the pistachio  shells. Just colored them adhered it on the surface.

Hope you like it.....

CD Cover Mini album

I was thinking of putting to use some spare CD covers I have at home. Then one day my friend wanted me to make a gift for him so that he could give to his sister newly married sister, so I decided I would make a mini album of the CD cover I had.

First made these quilled teddies. Went through all the tutorial and videos on internet and finally made them. Making teddies was the most time consuming for me this this project.

I had some beautiful textured papers which I collected over so many years from invitations, magazines and whatever I could get my hand on. So decided to finally make use of it. Picked two different papers and cut it into the size so that it fits into that CS cover. Then decorated those papers. Purposely did not add any 3D ornaments as I wanted those to fit in the cover and can be closed. In each sheet I kept some grooves so that photos or mementos can be tugged in.

Covered inner side of the CD cover with crepe paper added the sentiment "Life is Beautiful" and some decoration.

For the outer side of the CD cover was again covered with the paper and adorned with teddies and some quilled flowers

The edges I covered with some colored papers.

After I gave it to my friend he suggested me to make the sheets as wall hanging so that either they can display the photos or keep them in this album. So made the change and here is how it looks.

Thoghts, Life, Express!!!!!!!!!

Another post for today

I have used an old diary and gave it a new look.
Applied a layer of homemade gesso and sprinkled rangoli powder on it. Those not from Indian subcontinent may not be aware of rangoli powder. They are colored powder which is used to make designs at the door steps during festivals or special occasions. There are different forms of design as well. I have many shades of rangoli powder so decided to use it for this project.

This is from WIP. I went for 2 layers of rangoli powder. It gave a beautiful texture, coarse and colorful. I usually mix some glitter powder to my rangoli so it has some sparkle as well

After it dried, I added a frame(from my broken hand mirror. I have another frame from the set will use in some other proj :)), handmade flowers and leaves (made from old magazine paper). Topped flower with some more glitter.

Added some hand written words, which I plan to do i.e. writing in the diary about me, my life, express my thoughts etc. finished off with a foam butterfly. I resisted my self adding glitter to butterfly :)

Some closer look on how the background has come up. You can see the particles of the rangoli powder.

The diary already had a holder strap, so how could I miss not decorating it. Added few pearls over the strap. So this is how it looks.

Interactive Pen Holder

Since I have started blogging I have some favorite blog sites and one which prominently features in that is, Lessology. I am totally amazed at their work and the DT members. What makes them stand out for me is, their challenges are not typical, they have twists which makes you think out of the box. Not to forget their recycling rule for every challenge. I was desperate to participate in their last challenge but I missed :(. So this time making sure I take up their Zip-me-up challenge.

For this challenge I am recycling a box and making it a pen stand for my kid. I was sure I am not using zip as an embellishment, I wanted to use its movement mechanism.

First I created few painting on the paper which is an exact fir for the box. As you can see the paintings are simple, no complicated techniques just to depict certain places. I have used water color to paint it. I have used only different shades of blue to depict different time of the day.
Next stitched the zip at the bottom and added a character on top of it which can move over that zip.

Close-up on how I mounted that cute boy

You can see as you pull the zip it closes. The picture is not clear but half of the zip is closed and the forward is open

I asked my son to name that boy, he chose his best friend's name, Vihaan. So the story goes like this, on a Sunday Vihaan steps out of the house on his skate board, goes to the garden to play( added few more details while telling the story which my son likes to hear or does when he goes to garden and play :)).
After playing he is hungry so stops by his favorite shop to have candy, ice-cream and chocolate. It starts getting dark and then he moves back to his home to have good night sleep!!!

This was my short story and my son liked it :).
Planning to make some other story as well.

Do let me know your suggestions/comments on my project. It really helps to improve and grow .

Some close-up.

Recycling CD

At home there are so many CDs lying around, thought to use it to make something. I was happy with the end product maybe I will add few more things with the CD in future.
Not adding too many detailed steps, photos will do the talking :) (Just being lazy :) :))

Will add the steps when I get time.
